CYCLING & WALKING
Old Town Lafayette is a great place to walk and bike! The city has on-street bicycle lanes, paved shoulders, and designated bike routes, as well as several off-street multi-use paths. Regional trails connect to adjacent municipalities: The Coal Creek Trail connects with Louisville and Superior, and the Rock Creek Trail connects to Broomfield and Superior to the southwest. Both of these trails connect to the US 36 Bikeway, which provides a direct commuter “highway” for bicyclists. This 18-mile bicycle corridor connects Table Mesa Station in Boulder to 80th Avenue in Westminster. Bike Northwest is an online, interactive bicycle map for the Northwest metro region that can help plan your route. Printed bike maps are also available by contacting info@commutingsolutions.org. Visit commutingsolutions.org for this and other biking resources.
CARPOOL & VANPOOL
Carpooling encompasses two or more people traveling together in one vehicle to their destination. A carpool is flexible and can usually accommodate everyone’s needs since only a few people are involved. In a carpool, you save on gas, reduce wear and tear on a vehicle, and rotate driving responsibilities.
A vanpool is a group of 5 to 12 people with similar commutes and who have consistent start time and destinations. Vanpools are ideal for commuters that travel over 10 miles one way to get to work. In exchange for a monthly fee, the vanpoolers receive a vehicle, fuel, cost of insurance, and maintenance of the vehicle from a vanpool provider. Vanpool monthly fares range from $61-$160 per person per month based on one-way mileage, number of passengers, and the size of the van. This also includes the Guaranteed Ride Home program. If commuting to or from the City of Boulder, an additional $20/person per month subsidy is available.
Way to Go is a regional partnership between the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) and a dedicated group of Transportation Management Associations (TMAs), including Commuting Solutions. The My Way to Go website coordinates carpools and vanpools for commuters. Visit Way to Go or call 303-604-4383 to connect with commuters throughout the region.
Guaranteed Ride Home. The Guaranteed Ride Home® provides a free taxi ride home from the office for employees who have an emergency arise (such as an unexpected schedule change or sick child). The Guaranteed Ride Home® program is offered as an added benefit of the following programs: Vanpool; Carpool; Bike to Work Day; and RTD's EcoPass. For more information, please email mygrh@drcog.org.
VanGo, a service of the North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization, provides free online carpool matching for residents in the North Front Range region. VanGo provides vanpool services for North Front Range residents for a monthly fare that varies depending on the participants’ pick-up and drop-off locations. Visit SmartTrips.org or call the Program Manager at 970-221-6859 to join or start a vanpool.
RIDESHARE
Rideshare programs, such as Uber and Lyft, are great commute options! Download the application to your smartphone, add a credit card, and you’re able to enter pick-up and drop-off locations. The application also provides real-time car tracking, so you’ll be able to see where your ride is, what time it will pick you up, and when it will drop you off. Both Uber and Lyft also diligently monitor rides for completion and safety.
